What Runway Gen 4 Turbo is

Gen 4 Turbo is the faster, lower-cost tier of Runway’s Gen-4 video model. Runway built it for quick iteration: it animates an image you supply, which becomes the first frame of the clip, and your prompt describes the motion.

In Pixara, Gen 4 Turbo is the one Runway model available, listed in the Create Video picker next to Seedance, Kling, Veo, Wan, Hailuo and others. So this Runway video generator page is about Runway image-to-video. Runway’s own documentation now describes Gen-4 as an older generation, with Gen-4.5 its newest model in Runway’s own app.

How to use Runway image-to-video AI in Pixara

  1. 1

Upload an image. A JPG, PNG or WebP up to 10 MB. Gen 4 Turbo needs one.

Describe the motion. What moves, how the camera moves and the pace.

  3. 3

Select Runway Gen 4 Turbo in the model picker.

  4. 4

Choose duration and ratio. 5 or 10 seconds, and one of six aspect ratios.

  5. 5

Generate and compare. Review the clip, then try the same image on another model if it helps.

When to choose Gen 4 Turbo

Start with Runway Gen 4 Turbo when you want a fast, style-conscious image-to-video test. Compare another Pixara model when your project depends on audio, longer duration, reference inputs or different controls.

Start with Gen 4 Turbo for

  • A fast first test of an image
  • Motion added to an art-directed frame while trying to keep its style
  • A short 5 or 10 second clip
  • Unusual ratios such as 21:9, 3:4 or 4:3

Compare another model for

  • Generated sound: Veo 3.1 or another audio-capable model
  • Longer clips or several actions: Kling 3.0, up to 15 seconds with Prompt Sequence
  • Reference images: Seedance 2, with up to 6 reference images
  • A specific resolution or control that Gen 4 Turbo doesn’t show

Based on each model’s documented controls, not a Pixara benchmark.

What to use it for

Iterate on art-directed frames

Test subtle motion, camera moves and visual direction without rebuilding the scene.

Make short clips in unusual formats

Use 9:16 for vertical posts, 21:9 for cinematic compositions and other ratios for campaign variations.

Test a still before a longer model

Use a 5-second clip as a visual proof of concept. It won’t predict exactly how another model will behave.

Adapt one campaign image across formats

Create variants for social, web and presentations from one approved image you have rights to use.

How Runway recommends prompting Gen-4 Turbo

Runway’s Gen-4 Video Prompting Guide gives this advice for its Gen-4 models:

  • Keep it simple. Start with the essential motion, then add one element at a time.
  • Describe the motion, not the image. The image already sets the subject, colours, lighting and style.
  • Use positive phrasing. Say what should happen rather than what shouldn’t.
  • Refer to subjects in general terms, such as “the subject”.
  • Avoid conversational or command-style prompts.

Formula

Subject motion + Camera motion + Scene motion + Style or pace

Example

“The camera pushes in slowly as the subject turns towards the light. Leaves drift through the background. Calm, cinematic pace.”

Same image, different models

One source image and one prompt, run on Gen 4 Turbo and another Pixara model. Neither is presented as the winner: the point is to see how two models read the same motion.

Source image, then Gen 4 Turbo and Seedance 2 with the same prompt, 16:9, 5 seconds; date and a neutral observation to be recorded. The second model is a suggestion; any image-capable Pixara model works.

Example

Art-directed frame

A subtle camera move on a stylised still.

Planned settings
16:9, 5 seconds
Planned prompt
“The camera drifts slowly to the right. Light flickers across the scene. Calm cinematic pace.”
Source image
Pixara-owned or Pixara-generated. No real people.
Record
Exact prompt, duration, ratio, any other visible settings, generation date, and what the test shows.

Example

21:9 cinematic clip

A wide-format image animated for a cinematic placement.

Planned settings
21:9, 10 seconds
Planned prompt
“Slow pan across the landscape as clouds move over the hills. Steady, wide cinematic framing.”
Source image
Pixara-owned or Pixara-generated. No real people.
Record
Exact prompt, duration, ratio, any other visible settings, generation date, and what the test shows.

Example

9:16 social clip

The same campaign image adapted for vertical social.

Planned settings
9:16, 5 seconds
Planned prompt
“The camera pulls back from the product to reveal the full scene. Gentle background motion, quick pace.”
Source image
Pixara-owned or Pixara-generated. No real people.
Record
Exact prompt, duration, ratio, any other visible settings, generation date, and what the test shows.
